High Accuracy Ferritin Rapid Quantitative Self Test
What is the purpose of this test?
Ferritin is an intracellular protein present in most tissues and
plays an important role in intracellular iron storage, however it
has also been given a variety of other roles as the subject of
recent extensive research. Ferritin is produced by the liver and
stored in cells throughout the body, including the liver, spleen,
bone marrow, and muscle tissue. It is released into the bloodstream
as needed to provide iron to the body. This protein plays a vital
role in the body's oxygen transport system because iron is a
building block of hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that
transports oxygen to body tissues. Low levels of ferritin can lead
to iron deficiency anemia, a condition in which the body does not
have enough red blood cells to transport oxygen to the body's
tissues. Ferritin testing is an integral part of assessing a
person's iron status and can help diagnose and monitor conditions
such as iron deficiency anemia.
